Last Week we had a look at the Glow White Box, this week it is time to do the same for the Survivors of Death 1 collection.
For the last couple of years Gencon usually meant the release of a new set of Echoes of Death, with 2023 seeing the release of Echoes of Death 4. This year however, despite great anticipation for a male EoD set, we were treated to something slightly different.
EoD so far has always featured 4 minis that kdm-fied previously released generic line models, together with 4 Strains and the related Strain Fighting Arts. (Strains are one-time unlocks for experiencing or achieving certain situations that remain with your game from that point on forward. They usually contain a bit of narrative and a ‘reward’.)
Instead we got Survivors of Death 1 this year. Similarly, it is a four mini collection however featuring 4 different types of content, one associated with each mini, mostly for the newer side of KD:M.

As the box itself states, it is likely best experienced if combined with the Gambler’s Chest Expansion, but even without the GCE I couldn’t help myself and had to get it. Especially if you own the Frogdog expansion, it should be fine.
Gameplay-wise SoD1 offers:
- 4 Character cards (2 impairments, 2 abilities)
- 1 Strain + 1 Strain Fighting Art
- 1 Indominable Resource for the Frogdog, Pattern and Gear
- 1 Seed Pattern and Gear
- 1 Collective Cognition card and 3 step Knowledge
The armor sets featured are Black Knight (Marchioness), Lagomorph, Frogdog and Bullfrogdog.

I managed to get the Marchioness-survivor with her special pose onto one of the stone face bases by trimming off 2 of the half stone faces.

If you are mainly looking for game content $75 is still a steep asking price and you will be better off getting any of the gameplay/monster expansions, but this is a nice addition, especially if you own the Frogdog, and like the minis in general. General White Box aspects apply – see my FAQ.
To me, these figures are some of the best looking KD:M miniatures there are and especially the Black Knight and Bullfrogdog themed ones really ignited that urge in me to paint them.
Also, having an additional Frogdog armor model made the decision easier to use one of the Frogdog-four as a new addition to .. ‘the Band‘.

The Feline Entity did not care too much this time around, but she was present nonetheless.
I will keep it short and sweet with this one. I want to look at Strains and those very few I have managed to unlock at some point in the future as well, but for now this is it.
I, for one, really like this set.
Thank you very much for your time and may your lantern shine brightly,
Amathul
