It’s Halloween!

Or, well, more accurately at this point in time: it was. So before I get back to the tales of Bogstop – yes, there are finally new things to catalogue on that front – or any other settlement for that matter; I can finally celebrate the end of October, a month, that for some reason, was just filled up to the brim with.. stuff. This also means its time for the next KD:M update and Halloween is always a special one at that.

This time around we got a lot more things on the sale-side and very little update-wise.

The star of this year’s Halloween update is undoubtedly the Golden Bat. Endowed with a fairly hefty price tag of $225, this is looking like its likely going to be a “naked” monster set to be released at some point in the future, It is very likely the Golden Bat that has been referenced by the Inverted Mountain’s Gryphon. (Edit: Apparently it has also been referenced in connection to the Ringtail Fox in one of the older updates on KS. This is new to me though.) I’m not so sure on the pose for the monster personally, but it’s an interesting glimpse into the future non the less.
The other main release is likely Brave + Hollow, a narrative mini giving us a snapshot of one of the possible endings from the Killennium Butcher vignette, but with a twist. I like the revisit to the storyline presented in the vignette and its characters. I had hoped for more of a wanderer type of deal but this one still sports 3 seed patterns gameplay-wise.

Most interesting to me was a Phoenix-centric mini, featuring a new settlement event (Edit: Its a settlement event extension – something that can be used when you draw the Core settlement event Hunt Reenactment and pick the Phoenix as the monster), the Phoenix Hunt reenactment. The sad part being that is already sold out, though that isn’t exactly surprising.

Of course Halloween also gives the opportunity to get your hands on the Halloween Survivors and various Costumes, as well as the themed dice.

A lot of the single Halloween releases have gameplay content associated with them, most of them do feel somewhat contentious to me though, as they are more gimmicky and strange than typical gear. The items are not really cannon to the game, with effects like dealing bonus damage to pumpkin monsters, and such. It’s just not my personal cup of tea, but there are some great minis amongst the bunch, like Erza of Dedheim, Devil Satan or the Halloween Ringtail Vixen. Or you also had the chance to follow the persistent meme of the Apotheosis survivor with various accessories – like a pumpkin head this time around.

There’s also been a couple of items from the archives like Sylvania and two different Disciples of the Witch being available for a very limited amount of time. Most of these sell out pretty quickly, so if you were lucky enough to get your hands on some of them – good job!

In regards to this month’s updates, well, we only saw a quick community spotlight highlighting the Lantern’s Reign discord’s community painting contest and its winners and we were told that there would be no new keys sold for the Sim before Black Friday, which I believe we already knew.
The Kickstarter update in particular gave us a look at a sprue of armor for the upcoming Screaming God (Parasyte Queen Hype!) and left us with the teaser that we will be getting info on the Silver City expansion next month.

So far so good. We already knew there wouldn’t be much in terms of update for this month, so the only thing we can do is wait for Black Friday. That is certainly going to be a chunky one however.

For now that will be all on my end, we’ll continue with Bogstop soon, until then, thank you very much for your time and don’t get turned into gold by a bat,
Amathul
