Comprised of the same additions to the game as the first Survivors of Death product, this is also best used if you own the Gambler’s Chest Expansion. Furthermore, items featured in this collection also require the Tyrant from the Dragon King expansion.

The box is slightly chunkier than the last one.

Gameplay-wise SoD2 offers:

  • 4 Character cards (2 impairments, 2 abilities)
  • 1 Strain + 1 Strain Fighting Art
  • 1 Indomitable Resource for the Tyrant, Pattern and Gear
  • 2 Seed Patterns and Gear (1 requiring Atnas)
  • 1 Collective Cognition card and a 3 step Knowledge

Looks pretty similar to the first SoD box.

The armor sets included are Crab (Crabman), Screaming God, Dragon Vestments (PotStars) and Black and Red Armor (Red Witches).

Building Crabman was surprisingly difficult, and I’m not sure I fully got it right. His upper torso is set up kinda weird. But I figured I could call this “close enough”.

Whilst I was unable to even find a single “Male Priest” model, in contrast we have our third model for the Dark Paladin.

Despite me wanting to point to my FAQ for my general answer to whether or not you should consider buying this White Box, there has been some discussion on the contents of this box ever since it’s had its debut at GenCon2025 which you might want to keep in mind when considering whether to make a decision.
Therefore I am going to look at this box a little more in depth to make things easier for you.

First off: the Character cards range from really good to terrible. You can befriend Crab Spiders or gain Reroll-tokens for fallen comrades on the one hand or not gain any departing survival and insanity or gain +1STR at the cost of all other departing survivors losing 3 survival on the other.

Then there are also the requirements: One of the 2 crab axes (Sinistral) needs Atnas from the GCE in the campaign (and somebody to survive 10+ Swordcraft cards) to be able to be built, and the Indomitable Resource belongs to a monster featured in the game’s second-most expensive expansion to date.

If you don’t own the highest-of-pricepoint KD:M expansions, you will likely only be able to use the Strain and its associated Fighting Art – which is great for the record (allowing you to collect momentum tokens for moving 5+ spaces in a straight line and spend them in 3s for auto-wounds) and the other crab axe (Dextral) – which is a 1/6+/10 axe with Reach 2 and an ability for 3 green affinities to stack crab tokens on hits, and to spend them to help with severe injury rolls.

Should you own Dragon King you get to use the Tyrant Indomitable Resource – first nemesis indom so far – which makes a 1/6+/8 two-handed saw/scythe with Reach 2, Barbed 4 and +3SPD if you have a constellation. This weapon has received some criticism for its ability at 3 red and 1 blue affinity: any Persistent Injury drawn during an attack will be put into play immediately (without causing a wound).
Personally I see some use in edge-cases for this ability, but honestly, its not all that expensive to build (requiring Empire (I), as well as only a Perfect Organ, 2 bones and 2 broken lanterns) and a scythe with those stats seems decent enough to build for its stats alone. And we might need the teased saw weapon proficiency for full context as well. It might not be a super star right now but i think it is good enough to be experimented with!

And finally, if you own GCE, you also get a new Knowledge – Placid Mentality which lets you spend survival to turn any (random) Brain Trauma into the New Perspective roll result. The Knowledge does apply -1EVA as well though.
To me this sounds quite expensive, but I have been corrected that it is “a great knowledge” simply for the fact that it comes in at 19CC – which was an empty spot (until Red Witches at least).

There you go, that was much more of a content-breakdown than I did for SoD1.

For me personally – much like with SoD1, I saw two of the models and just had to get them. In SoD1 it was Hospitaler and Investment Sniper that awakened the urge of “I have got to paint those models!”
For SoD2 it was Dark Paladin and Valkyrie I couldn’t resist.

Again, much like with SoD1, I really like this set as well, precisely for its selection of cards for different systems it brings to the table. It’s also really nice to get some male models for a change.
But should you not care for the Crabman or the figures in general you should probably think long and hard about whether or not to spend money on this White Box.
And if you are a Core-only player looking to expand the experience, it should be a much safer bet to get one of the Legendary Characters Snow, Aya or Glow. They come in at the same price-point and do not require any additional expansions to function whilst all adding interesting (and/or very powerful) new things to explore.

That was quite a lot and I hope it helps you make a decision on whether or not to buy this particular box. I do hope I’ll get around to painting the Black and Red armor or the Screaming God one soon.
Speaking of painting – I finished my Flower Knight the other day and I am really proud of how it/she(?) turned out!
And whilst I have spotted a couple of blemishes in the pictures, I have been quick to iron them out!

Edit: We also, just now, heard that Team Death are hoping to be able to make an announcement in regards to the painting competition at the end of the month!

Quickly, in regard to Fade (and Percival for that matter):
What do I mean by missing? Well, I didn’t receive my Pillar Survivor – Fade with my order, its as simple as that. However, there is some more information to share on both Pillar Survivors still.
Naturally I contacted support immediately (around mid-day on the 9th) and shortly after received a message detailing that the EU warehouse had discovered an inventory shortage in regards to Fade for unknown reasons. This comes shortly after a similar email from support popped up that the EU warehouse also seemingly had not received any Percival stock and that both cases would be investigated.
Luckily not all hope is lost – according to users on the Lantern’s Reign discord, Kingdom Death support seems to have since contacted (midday of the 10th) at least 3 users telling them that the missing items have been located and over the next 15 business days they should be fulfilled separately.

So.., this has felt a little like one of those infomercials right before we got to the season finale of a series. Rest assured, we will be tackling the Grand Devourer next time (probably towards the weekend).

As always, thank you very much for your time, may your lantern shine brightly!
