For Season 3 we are on our way up the Inverted Mountain for the first time and whilst a few things are still missing, with all current releases we can make it about half-way!
For the time being I hope we don’t get into too much trouble with the White Speaker Cult because we are a little bit early.
Starting us off this time will be another Prologdog!
Whilst it should be a familiar foe for us, it has been some time since I last fought this monster, so I am curious as to how this will go. What I can definitely say though, is that I am looking forward to attempting to gather the copper for another Bullfrogdog-set later down the line!
As I got set up even the Feline Entity was feeling the excitement and she just had to immediately check up on me. Whatever she did to inspire the Frogdog was a little too much and I ended up getting bodied on my first attempt at a prologue fight
What started out quite decently in the first turn, quickly derailed as not only one of my survivors died to the Copperfish Den (T), but another fell to a Brain Trauma roll whilst virtually unharmed in the next monster turn after.
What followed was a slog-fest with the Frogdog which, whilst mostly stable, took ages before I eventually lost to the most poetic of endings: with 0 AI cards left, I threw a Founding Stone at the trap.

But it was all just a dream.
Thus, somewhere in the place of stone faces, four survivors woke from what should have been a dreamless slumber, only to get stalked by a White Lion:
Frogmagog (green), Alyssa (returning in blue), Ellaine (red) and Marduk (yellow).
I chose to use the Survivor Corpse (T) game over milestone, but none of the others I had available.

As the White Lion was suddenly swallowed whole by a leaping Frogdog, the fight for our survival had truly begun.
Clutching fists-full of rocks they stood on the marshy terrain, feigning courage, that pit in their stomachs deepening as memories of the nightmare earlier surfaced.
For anyone new to fighting the Frogdog:
For Lvl1 and the prologue it starts the fight with 4 traits in play, most of them just explain some keyword thankfully, like Leap – which sees the Frogdog jumping on the Mammoth Leaves (T) strewn around the fight.
It will also perform Gaseous Bloat ever so often on other cards, which puts Fart cards onto Double Sphincter – which in turn activates these cards at the start of the monster’s turn. Obviously, we do not want that. Luckily wounds dealt to the Frogdog from the Heinous Origin – the center space of its blind spot – remove Fart cards in line for activation.
Finally Foul Stench gives you Stink-tokens for stinky gear on arrival.
8 cards in the deck, Wet Slap was drawn first as was .. preordained..
I set up Alyssa to be targeted and she got decently lucky as she was only hit once in her Cloth.
At the time, it felt like the monster pitied us for what we had been through.

Despite the nightmare going so awry, Frogmagog was still set on heading towards the Copperfish Den (T), so he began the fight for us by throwing his Founding Stone at the Twitching Digit Flexors before moving away.
I do not mind spending the Founding Stone on this crit, even if it is not exactly a mind blowing persistent injury, I have come to appreciate that if the effect matters in the Frogdog prologue it really does.

Up next, Ellaine moved into the Heinous Origin, ready to disperse the fart, and whilst she hit with her attack, she failed to wound.
From this point on the rest of the round turned to wildly flailing around, Alyssa failed her attack outright, whilst Marduk hit, but (luckily) didn’t wound.
7 cards remaining. To start the new round, Ellaine was hit with the fart – Bitter Emission – taking a -1EVA-token. And then, the AI card was drawn: Twitching Kick, which would attack the perfectly positioned Ellaine as well.
She managed to dodge one of the 2 hits to her chest to stay standing for a counter attack.

And that was exactly what she did! Ellaine attacked from where she was standing, and she critically hit the monster’s Festering Heel, knocking it down!? What a turn-around!
With the monster on its side, and Marduk on a Mammoth Leaf (T), he jumped in with Fist&Tooth and he inflicted another critical wound – this time to the frogboobs!
-2TGH would certainly help us with wounding, but we now had a timer ticking against us. We needed to be quicker than the dogpoles hitting our legs in their frenzy!
Alyssa moved up to the squirming pile and hit the Frogdog right in the face – knocking a tooth loose!, before the other hit failed (2 on 4+).

Finally, Frogmagog took the time to go fishing and almost had his arm bitten off (1)! He was just quick enough to pull it back up in time (10 for the severe).

4 cards left in the deck, the Frogdog got back up and wanted to have Just A Taste of Ellaine. It trundled over, salivating, hitting her twice and knocking her over with the damage.

As Frogmagog was now on his way over to the Survivor Corpse (T), Marduk attacked, hitting once, easily wounding the monster.
Alyssa wanted to do the same but failed her wound, spreading stink amongst the 3 of them and.. she.. liked it (Eproctophilia D). Urgh!
Before our turn ended, Ellaine had to take a heavy wound to her legs from the rowdy dogpoles.

3 cards remaining, Just A Taste, again. The monster was not content with just one lick, 2 more hits went to Ellaine, and she finally suffered a Brain Trauma as the monster tried savoring a meal to come. Ellaine rolled lunacy which wasn’t an insta-kill for a change. She got Rageholic as her disorder and 5 insanity.
Alyssa started the next round of counter attacks, hitting once after taking her leg damage, but she was too off balance to wound. The Frogdog laughed and Ellaine fell over yet again.
Marduk on the other hand hit once and wounded once without repercussions, before backing off onto a leaf, clearly trying to show Alyssa how it was done.
And then Ellaine suffered a severe leg injury – she rolled a 4 and was freshly down 2MOV and 1 leg. Of course this also frenzied her.

2 cards remaining, Twitching Kick was still in the deck, and Alyssa would be the one chosen as the target this time. In a lucky break for Ellaine, Alyssa got hit twice to no further consequence.

Frogmagog’s road-trip finally came to an end and was actually rewarded with a Monster Hide.
At this point, Ellaine has had it! She activated the Mammoth Leaf (T) and jumped into the monster’s blind spot with +3STR. She hit the Frogdog twice, and just about wounded twice as well (all thanks to frenzy) before the monster jumped away in fear of the raging one-legged woman.
Luckily it did not leap onto Marduk and he, in turn, got his chance to kill it!
One more hit!
One more wound!
And it was done!

Overall, that was a much better fight than the nightmare I lived through before the survivors woke up. It also didn’t take nearly as long.
As a copper-apologist I do still feel the urge to say, that it is sad to not get any for the fight, but what can you do? Ultimately the important thing is that we have survived it this time!

Drawing our resources, we not only got a ton of hide, but 3(4) bones as well to make weapons out of. Overall a great selection of loot for a prologue!
As with the other Seasons, I will leave the general talk about the campaign set-up for next time. For right now I am just happy to be able to be playing a new campaign with new monsters!
And, as a certified luck-vampire, I can’t help but wonder at this point: how stupidly lucky might I get this time? Luckily stupid? Or will the Pariah put an end to it and I will be the one Sulking in a corner?
The joy of a new campaign – there are just so many things I am really looking forward to right about now!
In that sense, thank you very much for your time, may the Feline Entity bless your Frogdogs!
